Tour description:

You want to travel on the Glacier Express route, however, there are no more available seats for your travel date or you simply prefer to travel on the local trains? Not a problem at all - with us you can do this tour using the local trains as well. They run on the same route and you can admire the same scenery as from the panoramic train.

The local trains run on the same route, however, they require a few changes of trains, which are very simple, especially with your native private guide.

As the local trains require no seat reservations and surcharge this tour is cheaper, than the tour on the panoramic train.

The downside is, there are no panoramic windows. The windows on the regular trains are still large enough to admire the beautiful scenery.

Another downside is that the local trains have no kitchen and service on board. Lunch will be snacks & sandwiches, which you can buy at the train stations and eat on the trains.

The comfort is excellent as well on the local trains. We do this tour in 1st class by standard. The seats are comfy and offer a lot of space. As the local trains have most of the time a low occupancy rate, it`s easy to move around, and take pictures or enjoy the scenery from both sides.

Route option A:  Zurich - Chur - Andermatt - Zermatt

Depart around 9 AM from Zurich to Chur, the oldest city of Switzerland.

From there we cross the Alps by train on a spectacular journey over the Oberalp mountain pass, drive through Andermatt and continue all the way up to the beautiful car-free village of Zermatt.

In the evening we arrive at Zermatt where we do a walk through the village and have dinner if you want to before we return to Zurich.

We arrive in Zurich between 10 pm and 11:30 pm.

Route option B: Zürich - Erstfeld - Andermatt - St.Moritz

Depart around 8 AM from Zurich main station and travel to Andermatt. From there we continue to Chur and Thusis where the Albula train line begins, one of only three train routes which are a UNESCO world heritage site.

During our train journey across Switzerland, we travel over the Oberalp mountain pass and the
famous Landwasser viaduct to the lovely alpine town of St. Moritz. There we have time for a snack before we return to Zurich.

We arrive in Zurich between 9 PM and 10 PM.
