Zurich to Monte Generoso and Lugano
Day tour from Zurich by train with a native Switzerland private guide
The perfect tour for you if you want to see the beauty of the Italian part of Switzerland or when the weather is bad in northern Switzerland.
We depart around 8 AM and travel from Zurich to Lugano by train. It`s located in the canton of Ticino, the sunny south of Switzerland. Cross the Alps through the Gotthard base tunnel, with 57 kilometers (the longest 35,42 miles) the world`s longest train tunnel.
From there a short ride on a regional train brings us to the base station of the Monte Generoso railway. A scenic 45 minutes journey brings us to the highest peak in Ticino, located at 1704 above sea level (5590 feet).
Visit the in 2017 opened building "Fiore di Petra" (stone flower) which was built by the world-renowned architect Mario Botta.
It is standing majestically on the rugged plateau which is a perfect place for a short walk to explore the full beauty of this breathtaking panorama.
You can have a relaxed lunch at the gourmet restaurant or a quick bite at the self-service restaurant which has an outside terrace.
We return to the Lugano train station in the afternoon. A quick ride on a funicular will bring us to the city center. Discover this beautiful city by the lake of Lugano on a short walking tour and end your day with a delicious dinner in one of the many Italian influenced pizzerias or trattorias.
Afterwards, we return to Zurich main station by train between 10-11 PM from where your guide will take you back to your Hotel or Apartment.
