Frequently asked questions about my day tours

Which mode of transportation do we use?

To offer you a combination of the best experience and the best prices, we will use public transportation, a safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation mode in Switzerland. Further, it's the fastest way to get around in Switzerland.

Depending on the tour, we travel with the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) trains, the Rhaetian railway, the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn, and the corresponding mountain railways / aerial cable cars.

Are your tours suitable for everyone

No. My private tours are ideal for solo travelers, couples, and small groups of up to six participants.

All participants have to be able to walk without any assistance.

A tour with a private vehicle such as minivan or bus is the better solution for people with walking impairment, large groups, or when traveling with a stroller.

The minimum age varies depending on the tour and is listed on the price table.

Are your tours wheelchair accessible

Unfortunately not, as not all trains are accessible without assistance. Train travel is possible; however, assistance needs to be pre-booked 24 hours in advance and for a specific train. Therefore, it's not suitable for a full day trip on multiple trains as I offer.

Are the meals included?

No. Unlike big group tours, we use à la carte restaurants. Some people like to have a big lunch and others just something small on the go. There is no fair way to include this in the tour price. The meals of the guide are included in the tour price.

Will pictures of us end up on your Instagram channel or the website?

I will, under no circumstances, publish any footage on which you are recognizable. I highly value your privacy and would never publish images or any other footage of clients. All images portraying people have been done with models that have signed a Model Release Form.

Do we need to prepay/make a deposit?

Yes, all my tours require a deposit.

Long-distance tours with Rate 1 (all tickets included) require a CHF 150 deposit per adult & tour.

Half-day tours, short distance tours, and all bookings with Rates 2 & 3 (with Swiss Travel Pass) require a deposit of CHF 50 per adult.

Which payment methods do you accept?

  • for the deposit:

The deposit has to be paid online. The payment is processed through the secure servers of our payment provider Stripe.

For the deposit, you can use Visa, Mastercard, or American Express cards.

  • for the remaining amount:

You can pay the balance directly to the guide on the morning of the tour day or online at any time before departure.

Accepted methods of payment:

Cash in Swiss Francs
Credit cards: Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Discover
Cash in Euro, USD, GBP, JPY, SGD, AUD, NOK, DKK, SEK, NOK at the daily buying rate of the Zurich state bank ZKB, the change will be given in Swiss Francs, 500-Euro banknotes cannot be accepted

Can I send cash, or give you the credit card information through the phone or by e-mail?

No. For your, and my security, I only accept payment through the secure servers of my payment provider Stripe.

Is online payment secure?

Yes. The payment is handled entirely by my payment provider, Stripe, and through its secure servers. All I receive is the amount paid, your address, the brand (for example Mastercard, Visa), and the last four digits of your credit card. I do not possess or store your credit card information at any time.

Stripe is PCI DSS certified (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard).

What is your cancellation policy?

The cancelation period varies from tour to tour, and the chosen rate to give you the utmost flexibility. You can find the cancelation policy on every tour's price table, located below the tour description.

Long-distance Rate 1 tours (all tickets included), which require day passes for the trains that need to be purchased in advance, usually have a cancelation period of 20 days before departure.

Short distance tours, half-day tours, and tours with the Swiss Travel Pass usually have a cancelation period of nine hours before departure. On some tours where third-party time-slot or seat reservations are required, namely the Gelmer funicular, Jungfraujoch, and Bernina Express tour, a small amount is non-refundable from the time of booking.

I will also notify you of the cancelation policy for the selected tour before you make the deposit, and the cancelation period will be stated on the booking confirmation.

Why are some tours more expensive than others?

As every tour needs different tickets, and as every mountain railway has different prices, the price varies greatly.

Is travel insurance included?

No. Insurance is the participant's own responsibility.

In the mountains, air-ambulances (helicopters) are used, which are very expensive. I highly recommend having travel insurance if you participate in my tours.

What is the benefit of booking with SWISSDAYTOURS?

I'm a native guide, born and raised in Switzerland. I know all the tips and tricks and the train and mountain railway system like the back of my hand. Don't worry about missed connections, where to go, when the last mountain railway leaves. There will be guaranteed no evening hikes back to civilization for you. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy. I have carefully planned a great day out for you.
